Sitting by the river, I watch as the clear water tumbles over a natural dam. The soothing sound of flowing water keeps me company and takes my mind off of what I am supposed to be doing. My phone buzzes in my pocket telling me that it is time for lunch. I keep watching the flow and eventually fall asleep feeling refreshed from the beautiful scene in front of me.

I am sitting by the riverbank of the River Sava in Slovenia, watching as clean fresh water jumps over the rapids. I just finished a long and difficult hike through forests and valleys. It is my final day in Slovenia before returning to London where I live and work. As I sit here, eyes closed with peace on my face, I can’t help but think that this will be one of my most memorable moments for years to come until when it really does happen: retiring from work at 60 after 40+ years of service.
